Taylor and Shannon | Married in Her Grandparent's Living Room

January 21st, 2024 — Escondido, California

The first photograph I took on Taylor and Shannon’s wedding day was this left corner image of the tree that centred Shannon’s grandparent’s backyard, in a Southern California January still lush with reseda green leaves. Hours later they would be gathering there with the warmth of their closest family and friends to exchange vows — at least that was the original thought. Not too shortly after this image was captured, rain came steadily and unrelentingly. With projectors moved out of a teaching hall last minute to make space for a sit down dinner, the never ending puddle by the front door where umbrellas were picked up and left again, and a last minute decision to light the fireplace and move the ceremony to the living room, the day took its own form, all the more free from expectation, and rich in beautiful, love centred memories.

You could feel so much care, presence, connectedness, and joy from not only Taylor and Shannon, but everyone around them — I think that speaks to the people they are. I am so happy for them for what they have found in each other. I feel I’ll let the photographs tell the story more fully than my words, and I’m ever grateful to have been a part of this.
